Lara Croft's much-hyped return to video games in the refreshing Tomb Raider?reboot is accompanied by a tie-in: a special Tomb Raider-themed controller.
The Xbox 360 Tomb Raider Limited Edition Wireless Controller, designed in collaboration with publisher Square Enix, captures the rough-and-tumble nature of Lara's latest adventure. It features a small climbing axe logo between the D-pad and right analog stick, several scratch marks (actual grooves cut into the controller), fingerprints, and textured bandages with mock blood spots. In short, the gamepad looks like it went through as much hell as Lara.
The controller isn?t just a visual gimmick, however. Packaged within the box is a code that lets you download the 988 Kb Scavenger Archer who is one of the many unlockable Tomb Raider multiplayer mode characters. A pair of AA batteries is also included.
The Xbox 360 Tomb Raider Limited Edition Wireless Controller?s battery pack makes the gamepad a tad heavier than the standard Xbox 360?wired and wireless controllers, which is to its benefit. It has a certain weightiness and sturdiness that feels good in hand. I played Tomb Raider for hours without hand cramping or a wireless signal drop.
Like other wireless Xbox 360 controllers, the Xbox 360 Tomb Raider Limited Edition Wireless Controller has a 30-foot range and transforming D-pad that lets you emphasize either 4- or 8-way directional inputs by pressing in the D-pad and rotating it 45 degrees. 4-way, for example, may be your preferred mode when playing the likes of Pac-Man Championship Edition DX.
